St John By Harriet

In the weekend I went to St.John Wairarapa competitions. It was at a school in Masterton and people came from all over the North island to compete in it. I competed in all of the tests e.g. drill, caregivers. There were a lot of juniors competiting and it was very hard to get a placing but I came first in first aid, caregivers and team aggregate. Above there is a photo of the meadles I won.

Funny Money By Annaliese and Matt

Our two weeks of having no rewards ended today, so today we had a decision to make. We reflected on what we had learned and how having no reward had effected us. Most of us said it hadn't made a difference. We eventually decided that we all wanted to do group points so we could work on working together as sometimes we struggle with this. We have decided to have a reward system of group points instead of funny money.

Here are our Group Names:

Harriet's Group is called - The 7 Musketeers

Matt's Group is called   - The Fantabulous 8

Max's Group is called  - Snapper Crabs

Anqi 's Group is called - The Dotty Balloons

We talked about how we could earn or lose points and decided on these ideas.

Here are some ways to earn group points:

- Working together
- Being organised
- First desk group ready
- Listening
- Working quietly
- Letting everyone have their say

Here are some ways to lose group points:

- Not being organised
- Yelling or shouting at people
-  Going off topic

The Group with the most points at the end of the term will get to organise the fun day. I wonder who will win?

Funny Money Reflections

Today we had a chance to reflect on our learning with last term's Funny Money system. We talked about wanting to learn and improve because we want to, not because we are getting a reward. We discussed the positives of Funny Money the negatives and where we think we should take things from here. Many people in G4 showed a lot of maturity in their ability to honestly reflect on the system. It was great to hear that most of us just naturally love learning and that Funny Money is just a bonus :) Well done G4!!

We decided to have a two week break from all 'physical' reward systems and see what impact this has on our motivation levels.

QR Codes by Rohan and Antony

This morning in class we were learning what QR codes were. Then Miss Slater got out a I-Pad and scanned over one of the codes called 'Scan-Life,' and it directly took us to our twitter homepage. If you google up QR codes maker it takes you to a site where you can type in a web adress and it makes a QR codes for that site.So if your parents are waiting for you after school, tell them to use their Smart-Device (that's a piece of technology like an I something or an Android Phone) to scan the QR codes outside our classroom, and entertain themselves!

Speech Finals By Cameron and Anqi

Yesterday it was the day me and Anqi have been waiting for. The bone chilling ,nerve racking, spine tingling and tummy churrning speech finals. We were scared to death at the start but after we spoke our speech all the heavy preassure lifted from our shoulders. We all did great but unfortunatly both of us didn't get a placing but we didn't mind because we knew our speeches were brilliant. We tried our best and thats all we wanted.

Excellence Award

Well done to Harriet who won Term 3's Excellence Award. Harriet always has a sunny and positive outlook to her learning, and is never seen around the class without a smile on her face. She is a very helpful student who is always happy to lend a hand to others when needed. Aren't we lucky to have such a delightful student in G4?
